WELCOME

Welcome to the Southern Region!

We are an organization of Interdenominational Church Ushers. We teach the National Silent Uniform System of Church Ushering utilizing signs and signals.

The National Silent Uniform System of Church Ushering is uniform and adaptable to any church's program. The goal is to enhance any church service as well as accent the role of ushers in reclaiming, winning, and keeping souls for Christ.

Dr, Linda Pates- 2025 Banquet Honoree - Mississippi

Bio:

Dr. Linda Barnes-Pates


Dr. Linda Barnes-Pates was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and reared in Port Gibson, Mississippi.  Linda is the daughter of Lela Mae Barnes and the oldest of five siblings. Currently, she resides in Utica, Mississippi. Linda is the 

wife of James Pates, mother of two daughters, Marva & Christy, grandmother of two, Aaron IV and Emory, Godmother, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, friend, leader, teacher, counselor, consultant, go-getter, motivator, and a 

Christian committed to the usher ministry. Also known to many as “Doc” and “Committed to Doing Whatever It 

Takes.”  A Welcome Missionary Baptist Church member in Port Gibson, Mississippi, serving on various committees and holding the church usher ministry and financial secretary positions. 

Dr. Pates is a member of the Mississippi State Association of Church Ushers. She has held the following positions: 

President, Vice President, Financial Secretary, and Treasurer.  She served as credential chairman, assistant financial secretary, financial secretary, treasurer, assistant director, and 

Director for the Southern Region Church Ushers Association. She was Treasurer, First, Second, Third, and Fourth Vice President, and currently is the 25th President of the National United Church Ushers Association of America, 

Incorporated (NUCUAA).

She graduated from the following postsecondary institutions: Hinds Community College, Associate in Applied  Science in Clerical Science; Jackson State University, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Business 

Administration; and Mississippi State University, Doctor of Philosophy in Instructional Systems, Leadership, and 

Workforce Development.  Dr. Pates retired from Hinds Community College, teaching Adult Basic Education and Business Technology for 31 

years, respectively.  Dr. Pates enjoys serving God and people in society and usher ministry, writing and reading, researching, traveling, 

spending time with family, friends, and ushers, and watching television, including documentaries, Netflix, soaps, westerns, sitcoms, and sports. 


Mottoes are: “If I cannot help someone along life’s way; then my living is in vain; and Send me Lord, I will go.

Banquet Colors:  Black and White with a touch of Silver.
